What to expect
Costa Rica:
Exit tax: $8 per person (optional at LIR if stating “in transit”).
We assist with purchasing the exit tax at a branch located at the border near the Costa Rican Immigration Building if needed (additional time may be required).
Border crossing formalities.
Nicaragua:
1. Entry tax: $14 per person (cash only). ($13 for Immigration + $1 municipality Tax)
2. Meet your Nicaraguan driver and proceed to your destination.

On your way back to Liberia Airport or Costa Rica in General, you will only need to pay the Nicaraguan Immigration Exit Tax $3 + $1 Municipality tax. Total: $4, you won’t have to pay anything to Re-enter Costa Rica. Please have exact change.

- Passport validity: Minimum of 6 months remaining.
- A return Ticket to your country of Origin: Required for entry into Costa Rica.
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for travelers aged 1 year or over, arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission. Yellow fever vaccination: If you have visited Panama or any country in South America or countries with high risk of yellow fever transmission in Africa within the past 6 months, Nicaraguan immigration authorities may request you to show a valid Yellow Fever vaccination card.
